Waiting in Kennedy Airport for a flight, I discovered a magazine called "Wooden Boat", so I bought a copy. The idea of building a boat intrigued me. A few months later somebody threw a 5hp Honda outboard in my jobsite dumpster. The thing looked brand new so I took it home, put some gas in and it started right up. That's when I decided to build this boat. After the boat was completed I found out the outboard had a broken drive shaft and a new one cost more than the engine was worth so it ended up back in the dumpster and I found a set of oars.

"Chances R" was designed and built by me circa 2002. My wife said you should call it chances are because chances are its going to sink!

Chances R got a lot of use initially and then more and more it sat idle and slowly deteriorated. Finally a rebuild was needed. The 1/4" plywood floor was ripped out and replaced with 1/2" cdx. I added sloped pieces between the frames to stop standing water.

I purchased a brand new Tohatsu 10HP 4 stroke with electric start. The boat was looking good again!
